Why you should be watching Black Mirror

5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING 'BLACK MIRROR'

Black Mirror is an anthology series by Charlie Brooker that deals with dark, sometimes satirical themes relating to how the advances in technology is slowly building up the decline of human interaction and empathy. Basically every Black Mirror episode passes the message that human mechanisms for caring and sympathy are on the brink of crumbling and shows us the dark side of where we are now with technology and social media and where we might be headed to and although not every episode is gloomy sci-fi mind bender, they are definitely all enthralling.

The series is already 3 seasons deep with a 4th season scheduled to be out this October but don't let that deter you as the series boasts a total of just  13 episodes. So if you have never heard about this show or you've heard of it and still debating whether or not to watch, here are the reasons why you should jump into the wonderfully weird world of Black Mirror.

1.   It's an Anthology

As earlier mentioned, Black Mirror is an anthology series meaning that although the series has an overarching message or theme, every episode differs in terms of story and even cast. This makes the series extremely convenient for viewers as there's no particular reason to watch the series in any particular order and viewers can absorb the series at their own pace without feeling the need to catch up on previous episodes, making the series very easy to binge. Each episode of Black Mirror is self contained and takes you into its own personal world which could be a direct parallel on the present reality or what the future could turn out to be.

2.   It Boasts An Impressive Line-up of Actors

As an anthology series, Black Mirror has no main or even reoccurring cast and over the course of its 3 seasons, has been able to assemble an array of talented UK and US actors  to bring their gloomy tales to life. The nature of the series allows it to bring on board some household names with busy schedules to come in and shoot scenes for a short period  of time. Black Mirror boasts the likes of John Hamm(Mad Men), Haley Atwell (Agent Carter), Rory Kinnear(James Bond), Tobias Menzies(Game Of Thrones) and more.

3.   It Can Be Disturbing

Although not every episode is a scare, they are all designed to leave the viewer with a lasting impression of concern, fear and worry. Make no mistake, there is no downright horror episode of Black Mirror that would keep you at the edge of your seat with gore and suspense yet its tales are arguably much more terrifying because of their psychological approach and (more importantly) their real world application. The fact that Black Mirror scenarios could either happen now or in the nearest future should humanity remain on its current path is what makes the show very thought-provoking and frightening with tales designed to get under the skin of the viewer.

4.   It Has a Message to Pass

Every show has the intention of passing a message through the story that it tells and Black Mirror is no different. Although being overly focused on passing it's message can be detrimental to a show, Black Mirror has managed to avoid that pitfall and has made it's weight-some warnings of the decline in human society attributed to our increasing immersion into technology and media it's trademark. Black Mirror offers warnings of the impending doom (so to speak)  but doesn't really offer any kind of solution, rather, It offers us a glimpse of ourselves with our obsession with social media and online appearance as well as the decline in human empathy which has been replaced with competition and insensitivity.

5.   Cinematic Quality

Being an anthology, Black Mirror has the opportunity to tell different stories whilst still maintaining the overall message and theme of the series and over the course of the show's 3 seasons, viewers have been treated to episodes with compelling stories, captivating visuals (and even run-time) capable of holding their own as stand-alone cinematic entries.

With no official release date yet, the 4th season of Black Mirror should be out before the year runs out and looks set to be another thrilling ride. Here's the trailer to get you pumped, you're welcome'
